Hey friends and lovers of art and music! I’m starting to review and promote my favorite (and newly found) local virtuosos that inspire me daily. Throughout this blog you’ll see that my tastes run rampant and deep rooted in the soulful act that is the creation of art. I’m even more moved by people who actively use that art daily to make a change in the world. With that said I’d like to introduce you to one of Atlanta’s hidden treasures…
Aviva and the Flying Penguins!
While I will get into more detail and do a separate piece on Aviva herself, this band is a great inspiration to me. We met at a benefit festival my family was hosting a few years ago called The Etowah Jam Band Festival. This event was a volunteer effort to help raise funds for a Cherokee history museum in historic Dahlonega – the birthplace of the South’s Gold Rush and the gateway to the Trail of Tears and the Appalachian Trail. After a phone call and a quid pro quo with these awesome people, they happily decided to perform with us and share some good energy. What I’ve taken away from this band will remain with me forever. If you like reggae and gypsy music with powerful vocals, trumpet solos, meditative keyboard parts, and world changing lyrics you don’t want to miss out on the progress this group is making!
Please take time to check out this band and their impact on the world around them!
